NSF GK-12 High School Teaching Fellowship
Scripps Classroom Connection

For the 2012-2013 school year, Eric will be a co-teacher with Steve Walters in the 10th grade Marine Science class at Mission Bay High School. In addition to weekly time in the classroom, the duo will be developing an 8-lesson unit on various dimensions of cetacean biology: physiology, ecology, evolution, conservation, and more.

English as a Second Language

From 2008-2009, Eric worked as an English teacher at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri III, an Islamic boarding school in Palembang, South Sumatra, via a Fulbright Fellowship. Classes spanned grades 7-12, with more than 300 students in all. His syllabus was geared towards “Environmental English,” in which he adapted place-based education and civic responsibility curricula to local environmental issues.
