*There are two candidates for Oldest Living Olympian between April 8, 1896 (the beginning of the military rifle, 200 metres tournament) and May 20, 1900 (the opening day of the sailing tournament):

1. Charles Waldstein of the United States, born March 30, 1856.

2. Giuseppe Rivabella of Italy, born in 1855 or 1856. Depending on the exact date of his birth, he may have been older than Waldstein.
